Rebecca A. Tavangar, MA, LPC, NCC

    Licensed Professional Counselor

    Contemplative Psychotherapist

  • The most common reasons for therapy

can be alleviated with Contemplative Psychotherapy

    1

    Anxiety

Anxiety can stem from unresolved trauma, or a restless mind - often from not being able to be what we want to be – which in turn, comes from not knowing who we really are.

    2

    Depression

Almost always, depression results from genetic, biochemical, environmental, or psychological factors. Do you understand yours'?

    3

    Unresolved Trauma

Trauma is in the nervous system and body, and not in the event. It is more about our response to the event and whether we have processed it both psychologically and physically.

    What is BetterMind psychotherapy?

    It is a holistic approach

that draws on restorative contemplative practices to

regulate the nervous system while implementing

    specific strategies

that alter negative patterns of thinking.

Then we are able to form new neural pathways

    as old habits are replaced,

and new parts of the brain are used.

  •

    Cognitive behavioral therapy

    or talk therapy

is helpful, but it is limited

    to aspects

    of the mind.

  •

    A contemplative approach

    invites awareness to naturally

    arise within you—

    an alertness to an intelligence

    that is greater than

    thought alone.

  •

Contemplative practices include experiences such as:

    reflection

    mindful breathing

    sound meditations

    guided imagery

    passage meditation

    introspective journaling

    and

    centering in nature.

If you would like to incorporate

    contemplative practices into your life,

but you’re not sure where to begin,

    we suggest you explore the

Tree of Contemplative Practices found above.

  • SERVICES PROVIDED

Some people come in for short-term counseling

to address a specific issue or to feel accompanied

through a particularly painful time. Others come to learn contemplative practices that will aid them in quieting their nervous system. Many seek a longer-term approach to understand unhealthy patterns of reactive thinking and develop new healthy patterns.

Regardless of what your reason for counseling is, you can expect a safe, respectful, comfortable and supportive atmosphere whether in-person or virtually that facilitates healing, problem solving, growth and insight.

I also provide clinical evaluations and counseling support for U-visas & political asylum cases.

    CANCELLATION POLICY

Consistency is one of the cornerstones of therapy and is essential for effective treatment. In addition to the benefits of regular sessions, appointment scheduling involves the reservation of time that is specifically held for you. If you do not show up for your scheduled appointment, you will be required to pay the full cost of the session. Exceptions need to be discussed in person and in advance. I will be happy to explain the details of my reschedule and make-up policy during the initial consultation.
